The Orient Express

History behind the name
Developed by Georges Nagelmackers, the Orient Express made its inaugural journey from Paris on 4 October 1883. Over the years its routes changed, but its name became closely associated with luxurious journeys across Europe.

History behind the name
Built in 1923 for the London and North Eastern Railway, Flying Scotsman was the first steam locomotive officially recorded travelling at 100 mph. Its name comes from the historic London to Edinburgh railway service.

The Bournemouth Belle was a Pullman train service between London and Bournemouth. It ran from 1931 until 1948, carrying holidaymakers to the south coast.

The Golden Arrow was a luxury boat train service. In 1929 Southern Railway introduced a London Victoria to Dover service connecting with the cross-Channel ferry to Calais.
